WarnerMedia presented its first-ever virtual comedy showcase featuring 10 emerging comedians, writers and actors from diverse communities and backgrounds. Hosted by Robin Thede, creator of the Emmy-nominated HBO comedy series, A Black Lady Sketch Show, the one-night event was broadcast from an interactive stage in Los Angeles via InCrowd, mimicking the live theater experience for viewers and performers, alike, amid ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.
The showcase format is designed to provide exposure for up and coming performers and comedic writers and increase access to opportunities across WarnerMedia’s cable and television networks, and streaming platforms. WarnerMedia’s Equity & Inclusion team worked with comedy teams from HBO, HBO Max, Turner, truTV and Warner Bros. Television to curate this exclusive opportunity in front of a global audience that included some of the leading comedy and performing arts journalists, showrunners and producers.
“Each of these comedians have amassed a body of work that should position them for next-level career success. We recognize that access continues to present barriers to performers from historically marginalized groups. So we’ve created access and opportunities for them to show what they can do in front of decision makers in order to propel the trajectory of their already promising careers.” - Karen Horne, Senior Vice President, WarnerMedia Equity & Inclusion.
